Public Service Training Institute (PSTI) – From the DG

From the Director General

His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Executive Governor, Ondo State.

HOS Bayo Philip
Head of Service of Ondo State
Dr. Olumide Asere
Director General, PSTI

The transition from a resource-based economy, which prioritized primary goods production to Knowledge economy has increased the desire of many countries to unravel their capacity to compete. This has also led to increased drive to expand the learning potentials of their public services as engines of economic growth and to confront the daunting challenges of professionalism. The Public Service Training Institute is strategically positioned to take Ondo state to the mainstream of knowledge ecosystem.

The Institute was designed and patterned after academic institutions providing similar services across the world. Using the Malaysian Institute of Administrations as a model, the Journey towards the establishment of the Institute began with the award of contracts for the construction of the main building consisting of Lecture halls, Syndicate rooms and administrative offices in 2012.  Today, the Institute has expanded in scope and dimension in the delivery of both long- and short-term academic programmes to public servants and private sector individuals within and outside Ondo state.

It is pertinent to note that, the credit for the success so far achieved should naturally go to the Governor,, who realized on assumption of duties, that the Civil Service of Ondo State had suffered serious setback over the years from being one, based on  meritocracy to one, confronted by; poor human capital development, corruption, inefficient service delivery, low level of accountability and poor intergovernmental relations. The Public Service Training Institute (PSTI) was therefore, officially commissioned on 23rd January, 2017 by the Ondo State Government to fill the identified gaps in capacity and competencies of workers in the State Public Service and by extension support the goals of its cardinal programme.

The Public Service Training Institute (PSTI) was therefore, designed to focus on executing quality human capacity development programmes and support, not only the administration’s 8-point REDEEMED agenda but, by extension, cascade these achievements on a global scale. It is apparent that the original goal of the Administration to support the Civil Service and enable it recover its lost glory as an instrument of change and development has been well served.

We owe the world a duty to provide quality training as we roll out the programmes of the Institute, following the trend of the 21st century global best practices. Our objective is to rebrand and reform the entire public sector while also maintaining very high level of integrity and professionalism.

You are welcome to the PSTI

Dr. Olumide Asere,
Director-General.
